Double helical gears: also known as Herringbone gears, these are gears with teeth on both helices, one to the right and one to the left.
The double helix balances the axial forces.
They are characterised by having cylindrical helical teeth.
The axes of helical gears can be parallel or intersect, usually at 90°.
To eliminate axial thrust, the teeth can be made double.
Helical gears have axial resolution and to counteract this, the double helical alternative is used.
