1) Descriptions of Double Helix Gears
From the perspective of heavy-duty smooth transmission, double helical gears comprise two symmetrically arranged helical gear segments with opposing rotation directions. The axial forces of the two helical teeth cancel each other out, thereby retaining the smooth transmission characteristics of helical gears while adapting to heavy-load conditions. They serve as critical components in the transmission systems of heavy equipment.
 

2) Characteristics of Double Helix Gears

Characterised by a symmetrical ‘V’ shape distribution of the tooth profile, with no separate intermediate spacer sleeve (or featuring a narrow spacer sleeve), and two sections of helical teeth possessing equal helix angles in opposite directions; Advantages include: first, self-balancing axial forces eliminating the need for additional axial positioning structures, thereby reducing bearing loads and extending transmission system lifespan; second, high load-carrying capacity with tooth contact area 40%-60% larger than equivalent spur gears and 20%-30% greater than single-helical gears, enabling transmission of exceptionally high torque; Thirdly, transmission smoothness is superior, with a progressive engagement process resulting in minimal impact, low vibration, and operational noise levels 10-15dB lower than spur gears. Fourthly, structural rigidity is excellent, with the symmetrical tooth design reducing gear deformation and enabling adaptation to prolonged heavy-duty operation.
 

3) Advantages of Double Helix Gears

Suitable for heavy-duty equipment requiring the transmission of high torque and demanding smooth operation, such as the main drive systems of large rolling mills (transmitting thousands to tens of thousands of Newton metres of torque), reduction mechanisms in mining crushers, gearboxes for marine main engines, transmission components in large generator sets, drive gears for heavy construction machinery (e.g., crawler cranes), and transmission systems for cement rotary kilns.
